Month: April 2021
April 29th – Cafe 549
April 28th – Cottonwood Creek and faucet
As soon as the sun was up the windmills stopped. Big climb today up out of the valley.
April 27th – 230th Street
Religious literature at the water cache.
April 26th – Hikertown
Good to get back on the trail after a long break. Left with a group at the start. I stopped at lunch while they continued on. Was not a hot day but pretty cool, long sleeves needed.
April 25th – Hikertown
Church came to me this morning. I learned early in the morning there was to be a service at 11:00am. Pastor Glen works at Hikertown and was cooking up multiple entries for lunch. It is a Filipino community that meets once a month here. I told him about coffee hour and he says they do a full on potluck feast.
The older generation was brought up Catholic but the service is very Evangelical. They did start with the Lord’s Supper as a remembrance. It was followed by a worship song with numerous verse. It lasted over fifteen minutes and I was the only one to not know the words. Pastor Glen gave a fifteen minute sermon which ended with a call.
I was the only hiker to accept the offer to join worship. All the hikers accepted the offer to join in for lunch.
I also joined my 7:00am meditation group. A good reminder that communities of others really assist me with my practices. They vary greatly left to my own time while on the trail.
April 24th – Hikertown
May choose to hike the next section which is the Los Angeles Aqueduct early morning or at night. Two trail families left this evening. This the biggest group I have encountered so far with nine. Hikertown is a hostel and has a few small rooms.
April 23rd – Pine Canyon Road
April 22nd – Lady of the Lakes
Today was a thirteen mile road walk around a fire closure. Fortunately there were very few cars. Two drivers stopped to ask if I needed a ride or any other assistance. I thanked them for the opportunity and continued my walk. I was in camp by 1pm.
Seems there three ways to deal with a closed trail. Walk the closure, walk the detour, get a ride around the closure.
Four other hikes walked by the campsites. I setup for the night. They walked the closed trail.
April 21st – Green Valley Fire Station
A dozen young men showed up for training which promptly started at 4:00pm. Winds never let up in the evening and a storm did blow in with some light rain in the middle of the night.
