June 9th – Carson Pass

The PCT joins up with the Tahoe Rim Trail (https://tahoerimtrail.org/). Some locals and other thru hikers claim the best part of the Sierras are still to come.

Last few days very windy and the cold has returned. Mornings always have frozen puddles on the trail.

Elephant Mt on the left

June 6th – Leavitt Peak

Decent to Sonora Pass was treacherous. Lots of snowy traverses.

Picked up by the shuttle service to Kennedy Meadows North at 10:30am. Breakfast, shower, resupply box, shopping, mailed bear can back to Mark Painter, lunch, and back on the 2:30pm shuttle. Place makes it easy to do all that. Some unknown stranger bought me breakfast which was very nice and an great full for.

Shuttle driver is a talkative older man with a lab. He has lots of good questions. Another thru hiker ask about being a Franciscan. During lunch I learned another hiker is going to Stanford and studying Computer Science. They really miss the in person experience and do not like remote learning. They are very concerned about what company they will work from a moral and ethical point. Department of Defense is out for example. I gave them a list of my career employment, culture, work life balance which they found help.

Last two hikers on the shuttle back up to the trail are young remote workers. They find monthly Arbnb rentals and move about the country each month. They are headed to Washington State next.

June 3rd – Tuolumne Meadows

Benson Pass.

Thunderstorms today finally let loose with some rain. About three hours of rain rather then just a few minutes.

Fords. Three big ones today. First was a rock hop with one dab. Second was crawling across a log. Third was another rock hop that turn into a wade across the creek.

June 2nd – Agnew Pass Junction

Island pass followed by Donohue Pass.

About five miles from Tuolumne Meadows met three Forest Service scientists. They where hiking up to take water measurements. One of them had heard about a Franciscan on the trail from another thru hiker.

In the evening arrived at Tuolumne Meadows. A couple gave me a bottle of sports drink from their cooler. Cold drinks on the trail are great.

June 1st – Mammoth Lakes

Free bus service here. Got a new wedding ring this morning. Last one fell off long ago. Lineup of hikers this morning at the Post Office. Many where sending home their ice axes.
