June 18th – Jackson Meadows Reservior
Right before the highway to Sierra City I met a lady and she asked if I knew her husband. I did not recall his name or face. She was pretty sure he met me in the early days of the PCT. Unfortunately he had to stop due to heart issues. He had no idea. He is now recovering from triple bypass heart surgery.
Made it into Sierra City in time to get breakfast. Hiker special is three eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes with some hash browns. Very hot in town at the bottom of the valley and 4k in elevation.
The store did not have my package. Fortunately the Post Office is next door. It was on top of the pile of packages. Lots of new food makes for a heavy pack.
One of the hikers in town I saw a few weeks ago heard the story of my self arrest. I confirmed it for him and hope there not much snow left on the trail.

Ended the day at Donner Pass. Went under Interstate 80.

Had to self arrest and fortunately only lost some skin on my knees. Fortunately I was also hiking with a young man who provided some assistance once I was off the trail and at the bottom of the snow field. He is at the top where I slipped.
