Entering town I came across this outdoor church. For years they have been holding services outside. Their transition to COVID-19 protocols was easier then most.

April 9th – Wrightwood
Place I stayed was more then a little tired. Unfortunately this was the end of their pool.
Station of the Cross
At the bottom of the Acorn trail coming into Wrightwood a Stations of the Cross had been setup.
April 8th – Acorn Trail to Wrightwood
Breakfast in Wrightwood. Three mile trail down 2000’ to town. Mostly clear of snow. I did put on my micro spikes as I had them with me.
Everyone wants to eat inside. I have a nice patio outside with a breeze. That is best for everyone. Ten days on the trail and I could use a cleanup.
April 7th – Gobblers Knob
Over twenty miles between water sources. Found a puddle in a road below the trail. Tasted horrible.
Was nice to get into the forest from time to time. Somehow it survived the fires that consumed the rest of the landscape.
April 6th – Swarthout Canyon
LA had cloud cover in the morning. As the day progressed the pollution escaped. This is the beginning of a twenty miles climb that goes up over 5000′. Fortunately there are no steep sections.
April 5th – Cleghorn Road
I-15 crossing. We drove down this road on our way to Campo. This place is famous as it has the only McDonalds on the trip. Met a women older than I in the line to order phone. She was disappointed not to have joined a trail family. My experience so far was that there where far less people on the trial then issued permits.
I am sure there is a story behind this.
Spent dinner with five others listening to their stories. All of them had done the AT before. Beside it being a water cache there where three real chairs. Very nice to sit in a chair rather the ground or a rock.
April 4th – Silverwood Lake (Easter)
April 3rd – Grass Valley Creek (Holy Saturday)
First rattlesnake encounter. A family of five was coming towards me and seemed to slow down about a hundred yards in front of me. I was taking a water break so waited for them to pass. They mentioned a rattlesnake was ahead in some rocks. I never saw the snake but could hear it.
April 2nd – Deep Creek Hot Spring (Good Friday)
It is bird hunting season here. Man with a dog and shotgun was in a field flushing up quails and taking shots.
Deep Creek Hot Spring is a natural hot water spring that feeds into the creek. People have made pools with different temperatures. This location is very popular with young people to come and soak along with party.
The dam pictured below is empty with no water or even a stream behind it. It is named Mojave River Dam.
